About the program:

British Council and Hivos are committed to supporting creative and social impact economies across Southern Africa: Botswana, Mozambique, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Over the past year, they have created opportunities for hubs that drive the creative and social impact sectors.

This began with the “connect.hubs” training program for 40 hub managers, held in Cape Town and Harare, in November 2018.

Hubs across the region applied to join the “connect.hubs” directory – a pdf listing of 200 hubs and the services they offer. These hubs were encouraged to connect to each other and find ways to partner up.

Hubs were then invited to apply for collaborative grants for joint programs. 6 projects were selected, and will be complete by the end of June 2019. Each project is an arts-focussed event or initiative that expands the work of individual hubs by sharing resources and ambitions.

The hub managers were also invited to showcase their work at a hub summit in Johannesburg, March 2019.

All of these events will be repeated for a new cohort at the end of 2019.
