How studios actually pick collaborators

How studios actually pick collaborators

At a glance

Availability, taste and trust — in that order. A candid look at how creative teams assemble a roster.

Ask any studio producer how they cast a project and you will hear the same three words in the same order: available, right, safe.

## Available

The most talented person who cannot start on Monday does not get the job. Keeping your availability current is the single highest-leverage thing you can do on a directory profile.

## Right

Taste is legible. A profile with a clear point of view is easier to cast than a generalist who lists eleven disciplines.

## Safe

Safe means low-drama: replies within a day, files named properly, scope questions asked early. Reliability compounds faster than skill.

## What that means for your profile

Write the headline for the person casting the job, not for your peers. One sentence, plain language, no manifesto.
